Humans are a social animal and have long known that working cooperatively is beneficial to the entire community. (See “the tragedy of the commons”.) As members or a society, we all are faced with the decision regarding how much of our personal autonomy we are willing to sacrifice for the greater good. And the answer may correlate with a more general tendency to favor liberal or conservative philosophy.
Over the last few years there seems to be a growing focus on the individual and my rights, my freedom. One example is the resistance to mask mandates and shutdowns during the covid epidemic.
